The ComputerEase API: what it can and can't do

What the REST API covers, what it leaves out, and how to get the rest of your data.

The short answer

The ComputerEase API is useful for master data and a few kinds of entries. It is not a way to get your financial data out. Purchase orders, AP, the general ledger and inventory quantities aren't in it, so it can't power job cost, cash or margin reporting on its own.

What it reads

  • Jobs and job totals
  • Vendors
  • Employees
  • The item master (without quantities or costs)
  • Field Expense expenses

Treat what it returns as a recent copy of ComputerEase rather than a live view. ComputerEase syncs it roughly hourly, so a job created a minute ago may not show yet.

What it writes

You can post some entries directly: timesheets, expenses with receipt images, and subcontracts. A separate import service accepts JSON or XML for purchase orders, job transactions, vendors, jobs, AP and AR invoices, and change orders. Those imports are staged: someone in ComputerEase reviews and releases them, and each import type has to be enabled first.

What's missing

  • No purchase orders, AP or GL reads. The data most controllers want is the data the API doesn't return.
  • No inventory quantities or costs. The item master comes without on-hand numbers.
  • No webhooks. Nothing tells another system that something changed; you have to ask.
  • No practice company. There's nowhere safe to test writes, so test carefully.

Working with it

  • Turning it on. The API is a ComputerEase module. Ask Deltek Support to enable API Management for your company, then create a key.
  • Keys expire daily. Plan for automatic key rotation from the start, or your integration stops after 24 hours.
  • Expect each endpoint to accept its own set of parameters. Read the documentation per endpoint rather than assuming filters carry over.
  • Give the integration its own access group with only the endpoints it needs.

Getting the rest of your data

For POs, AP, AR, inventory, job cost detail and the GL, the reliable route is an ODBC extract on the ComputerEase server. A scheduled job copies the tables into a cloud database you own, every night, with payroll and other sensitive columns left behind. From there, Power BI and AI agents can use all of it. How the options compare.

That's our Land package: your ComputerEase data in your own Microsoft Fabric or Azure SQL database every night, checked against your ComputerEase screens. See pricing.
